Happy almost March! My family is Irish and something we LOVE to celebrate each year is St. Patrick's Day. Before the pandemic we would go to a parade each year, and we always cook corned beef and other Irish foods.
As a teacher I always love having seasonal and holiday books for my students, and since having kids I love to have books out for them to explore and learn about seasons and holidays. Here are some of my favorites for St. Patrick's day by age.
Favorite for babies - Baby's First St. Patrick's Day
This is such a cute book for babies - with bold and simple pictures it is great for talking about the vocabulary around the holiday. My baby especially likes the picture of a baby in a St. Patrick's Day outfit.
Favorite for Toddlers - You're My Little Lucky Charm
This super sweet book is perfect for toddlers. It is a rhyming book which my son (2.5) always loves and wants to read on repeat. It is also a sweet parent/child bond type of story that is perfect to read during bedtime snuggles.
Favorite for Preschool - The Secret Life of Leprechauns
This is an adorable book about Leprechauns! Little ones have so much fun with the idea of leprechauns hiding with their gold at the end of a rainbow, and the illustrations are so cute. Definitely a fun one that we will be reading on repeat this month!
Favorite for Elementary Age - Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato
This was my go-to St. Patrick's Day read aloud in my classroom and I'm kind of sad I won't get to read it to my big kids this year! I love all Tomie DePoala books, and this is no exception. This is a folktale about a lazy farmer in Ireland who encounters a leprechaun and grows a huge potato - it is such a fun story with an important lesson at the end about hard work.
I hope that you enjoy some of these books as much as our family does! What is your favorite St. Patrick's Day or Spring time book? I'd love to hear! Comment below!
