Easy Taste Safe Activities for Babies and Toddlers

If you have a baby or young toddler you know - everything goes in their mouth! So while sensory play with things like water beads and kinetic sand can be great, you really need an option that is TASTE SAFE. That way your baby or toddler can explore the sensory base without you having to worry about them ingesting something that is unsafe.

Here are some easy activities that are safe to taste!

Taste Safe Paint

I love this because it is 2 ingredients that I always have on hand - yogurt and food coloring! Perfect first sensory play for a baby who has already had some yogurt (dairy is a top allergen) to finger paint and explore a messy texture.

Cereal

Ground up cereal is great as sand or dirt for a farm, construction site, or other sensory bin! When cereal goes stale, put it in the blender and use for a super easy taste safe sensory base. We used some leftover cheerios to make this sensory construction bin - my son played with it for multiple weeks, adding trucks, animals, and other toys to extend his play.

Aquafaba (aka Chickpea foam)

To make this foam, drain some canned chickpeas. Take the "chickpea water" (not sure if that's the official word for it) and whip it in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. The result is this very cool textured foam! It is white but you can color it with food coloring for whatever theme you want (this is green for our little St. Patrick's Day bin)!

I hope this will inspire you to try some taste safe sensory activities! They are definitely some of my favorites as you can get baby and toddler involved and playing together!

Have a great day,

Kaitlin
